so moody…

the easiest way to communicate an aesthetic concept is, hands down, the mood board.

Exhibit A: Your Classic Mood Board. So pretty:)

With a furniture and decor project, the process typically begins with an aesthetic concept . One of the easiest ways to communicate an overall aesthetic is by using a “mood board”. A mood board communicates the conceptual look and feel of a space using examples of furnishings, soft goods (rugs, curtains, throw pillows etc), color palette, art and decorative items.

A mood board tells a story visually; incorporating repeated cues, style elements and colors. These are what create a cohesive concept. Sometimes, it is the art that connects all, as seen above. The bold oversized art piece not only speaks to a vibe, it unites the colors, the patterns and the styles of the other items shown.

Exhibit B: 3-D CAD Concept

Using online design tools, mood boards can be communicated in 3-D a format as shown above .

Mood boards often powerfully relay an aesthetic with very few elements. Color, finish, texture, shape.

Exhibit C: Objects + Materials

This grouping of product samples, inspiration images and objects communicates the palette, style and conceptual aesthetic.

Are you looking to refresh your space? Let’s get moody.
