3 reasons to hire a designer…

Why invest in hiring a professional interior designer? I’ll give you 3 reasons: MONEY, BEAUTY & PEACE

1) Whole House Concept 2) Main Bath Concept 3)Main Bath Complete

1-MONEY- As in, hiring a designer saves you money. A design by definition is a plan. Your decisions are made on the front end, potential problems have been anticipated and largely resolved prior to purchasing things you will have to look at for many years to come or tearing into your house. Thoughtful product selections are made in accordance with your design vision, lifestyle and budget. Your designer will be able to think creatively to get you the most for your dollars and help to allocate the budget to the areas of greatest return. And, very importantly, if you are remodeling, with your project plans complete, your contractor knows exactly what they are bidding so your pricing will be more accurate. Labor costs are THE most expensive part of any remodel so the more detailed the information you provide, the more accurate your cost projections will be.

Your home is (for most people) your largest financial investment. When making the decision to invest, do it with the end in mind. What will be your ROI (return on investment)? In financial arenas, the ROI is assessed in terms of monetary gain vs monetary output (profit minus cost). For a homeowner, your ROI may be financial: for instance, kitchen and bathroom remodels typically give you the highest return should you decide to sell your home but it may alternately be measured in terms of functionality: improved productivity, less chaos, lowered stress, better flow or all around improved enjoyment of the space.

1) Design Phase: As Built Plan (before) 2) Conceptual Design: Layout, plan view 3) 3-D Conceptual Color CAD Rendering

2-BEAUTY-Hiring a designer ensures that your project will not only work for your lifestyle and budget but additionally it will be beautiful. You will have a cohesive and beautiful aesthetic because it is created and curated in advance and according to what brings you delight. Do you have a vision for your home? Ok here is the choose-your-own-adventure part. If yes go to a) if no go to b)

a) Yes, I have a vision for my space: Great! a professional designer can take that vision, elevate it and translate it into specific products, colors, fixtures and finishes. Your designer will also have the knowledge of vendors and sources that can make that vision happen at a price point that works for you.

b) No, I do not have a vision for my space: No problem!! Your designer’s job is to help you uncover and discover what you want (what you really, really want), need and love. We will work through the discovery process using inspiration images and mood boards to play the design version of the hot-cold game until we land on your personal utopian design vision.

Aesthetics are oftentimes the point of departure for this creative vision but the “look” also has to work for you. Your products, furnishings and finish selections will be made according to your lifestyle and budgetary requirements. Does your imagined luscious velvet sofa with down-wrapped cushions also need to have a “cuddle corner” to snuggle into with a child, a partner or a book? Let’s find a sectional option. Does that sexy mid-century armchair do double duty as an afternoon nap locale by kicking into recline mode? Noted, I know just where to source that. Should your sleek modern home office include a standing desk to alleviate the aches and pains of too much sitting? Done! Is your home’s flooring required to stand up against the ravages of a dog with the zoomies or beach grit? I know just the thing. There is more to aethetics than what meets the eye.

1) Project: Before 2) Plan: Aesthetic Concept: Mood Board 3) Perfection: After

3-PEACE-Hiring a good designer will alleviate stress. A designer will walk you through the process of thinking through what you want and need, anticipating potential hurdles, providing thoughtful resolutions and will help set expectations for a viable budget. You are educated on the process and timelines. Your products, finishes, fixtures and furnishings are selected in advance and not only do you love them, but you can afford them and they are actually available (and in this new normal, when there are supply chain problems, your designer will source an alternate). Your contractor knows the scope of his work to enable a more accurate bid. You have removed many of the potential questions and stumbles that inevitably occur.. For example, you KNOW the sofa will fit in the space and you have selected a table on which to set your drink while you lounge and scroll in your lovely new space.

Last but not least: GOOD DESIGN ACTUALLY IMPROVES OUR LIVES. Higher functionality improves our productivity. Reigned in chaos lowers stress (clutter has been linked to anxiety and depression). Beauty makes our souls happy. Happiness makes us more productive and so on. A self feeding fabulous loop of goodness.

Added BONUS: You will have a ride-or-die partner in crime (ME!) to ooh and ahh and celebrate alongside you in your newly upgraded life.
